This week I’m learning a lot about soccer. I think I’m becoming a fan of this sport.
Found a cool window on Madison Avenue, NYC. 📸
Images of empty sets from BBC shows! Great resource for Zoom & Hangouts backgrounds.
I don’t know much about Megan Thee Stallion but I recommend this, an excellent music video that someone has made using clips from Powerpuff Girls. 🎵
I’ve been messing with performance enhancements for the webfonts on my personal website. The more I experiment, the more it seems like sticking entirely with system fonts is the way to go…
Once in a while, a Quora search result is actually useful.
The weather in NYC has been so erratic that I can’t figure out when to set aside time to take down my window A/C unit.
60mph (96 km/h) wind gusts today!

This YouTube channel about methodically, quietly making knives out of all kinds of everyday materials has been going on for so long. Every video is satisfying to watch.
I upgraded to the new iPhone 12 Mini because I really wanted a smaller device. The OLED screen makes the colors in all my apps look so much more saturated. I’m trying to get used to it, but I can’t help but think that iOS dark mode needs to be tweaked a little.

I picked up a Fujifilm X100F recently and the color presets (“film simulations”) are good at capturing fall colors. Here’s an unedited photo using the Classic Chrome preset.

Through some clever reverse engineering & brute force methods of placing orders every minute, this app tells you whether the ice cream machine is broken at any given McDonald’s location in the US. mcbroken

This 1961 ad for the IBM Selectric typewriter is fantastic. Commercials were so straightforward back then. This one is an especially elegant example.
Today, I moved from Input Mono to IBM Plex Mono for my text editors and terminal. It’s been a good 4 years with Input, but I need something a little more legible for my new display that’s further away from my eyes.
Plex has a flashier design but I find it easier to read.

Throat’s dry. It’s that time of year again. Almost time to turn on the humidifier.
Starting to see some fall colors…
Really tempted to get a cheap, used original Fujifilm X100 from eBay. They seem to be becoming collectors’ items and produce really nice images.
I’ve been a long time user of Sublime Text. I’ve bounced off VS Code every time I’ve tried to use it because it feels too sluggish. Should I just knuckle down and try to make the switch because that’s the direction everyone seems to be headed?
This 1986 MIT course teaches computing from first principles. It’s so far a nice little tour through so many techniques that I take for granted as a software engineer.
